Feeling Better: Devotions From Time Of Graceنموونە
My Life: Nothing matters
Some people come to a point in their lives that is worse than fear, worry, or panic. That place is called apathy. Numbness of spirit. Don't care. Nothing matters.
Apathy is a coping mechanism for people who feel overwhelmed. They give up so they won't have to feel bad anymore. Since their feelings send only pain messages, the only thing to do is cauterize them. Then the pain will stop.
The problem is that sensations of being loved then also stop. The more people wall off their hearts, the more impossible relationships become. Then every human interaction becomes just business; a hard, cold game where the strong survive and the weak become roadkill.
Can you feel apathy creeping into your spirit? Let the heat of God's love, his desire to interact personally with you in your life, melt some of that ice. Want to fly again, sing again, care again? "[He] satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's" (Psalm 103:5).
