Every Home a Foundation: A Theology of Homeنموونە

Establishing a Culture of Faith
When you hear “culture of faith” your mind might immediately turn to child discipleship—parenting children. But a faithful home culture applies to all Christians. You don’t have to be a parent to create a home culture founded on faith. While parents have a unique and important role in discipleship at home, single and childless Christians do too.
In 1 Corinthians 3 the apostle Paul told us: “According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it” (v. 10). In context Paul was speaking of discipleship: the slow build of faith on the cornerstone of Christ, the foundation on which we build our lives (v. 11).
Christ is our tested and precious cornerstone—unwavering, unchanging, and stable in all His ways. When built on Him, our homes are founded on all things good and true. Our belief in Him does not return void! Whether single, married, parenting littles, or seeing your littles off to college, your home will be a haven if it is based on the goodness of God.
A culture of faith is created when the hearts of those within the home are fixed on Christ Himself. Out of this heart transformation, we pursue the disciplines of the spiritually strong life—not to impress or show off or prove anything (to God or people) but to experience the richness of communion with God and man.
Home is where the heart is . . . and the heart is formed at home. The culture of faith we build through spiritual discipline turns around and blesses us with a newfound freedom.
Reflect
Pray for discernment on whether your home culture is truly built on Christ. How might God be challenging your current culture of faith in the home?

A biblical theology of home frees us to not just enjoy the place we live but to live with purpose and dignity. Theology simply means the study of God: who He is and how He interacts with the world. A theology of home—and the stewardship, hospitality, diligence, and food within it—is simply God’s perspective and heart for how His children experience homelife.
