5 Prayers to Stop Thinking Negatively About Your Spouseنموونە

Today’s Prayer: Pray to see your spouse as a teammate.
“Lord, I pray you will help me to see my spouse as my teammate, an asset, and a help. Help me put away my selfishness and my desires to conform them to my ideas and expectations. Help me instead to seek your purposes. May you be glorified in our union. Amen.”
Any team functions most effectively when its members get to play to their unique giftings and strengths. It will fail if one team member tries to do it all on their own. It’s a great benefit to marriage when we can be aware of our own shortcomings and weaknesses and lean on our spouse to be strong where we are not.
This is a practical expression of the value of God giving different strengths and giftings among his people, and this team mindset can be a gift to your marriage. It provides a gracious remedy to our selfish desires to conform our spouse to our image. We can let go of any plans to grow and change our spouse by releasing them to God’s hands and His perfect plans.
In today’s passage from Ephesians 5, we see Paul’s instructions to husbands and wives, and interestingly they are not quite the same. Both sets of instructions call us to serve and prioritize our spouse, but wives are instructed differently from husbands, which shows us that we are not meant to be identical. We are meant to function a little differently, and in fact, as a married couple, we will function best when we embrace our differences.
Are you embracing your spouse’s strengths and weaknesses? Are you aware of your own? How can you and your spouse work together to be more of a team today?
