Who Am I?نموونە

WHO DO YOU SAY I AM = WHO YOU ARE.
"Who do you say I am?" - This was the question Jesus asked his disciples to answer.
It is an incredibly important question for every single one of us to answer. Simon Peter was the only one to answer this question correctly. He declared that Jesus is "The Messiah, The Christ, the son of the living God." Jesus was excited by this answer because Simon Peter had not been told this truth; he had received a revelation of it. Jesus went on to call Peter a "rock." Jesus used this metaphor to describe him as a rock because of his firmness and strength of soul. When our firmness and strength of soul are rooted in knowing Jesus, then failure and success will never sway us. An identity built on Jesus is as solid as a rock.
Therefore, we can only confidently answer the "Who am I" question when we can confidently answer Jesus when he asks us, "Who do you say am I?" Only when we know who Jesus is can we understand who we are. There is a reason for this.
He knew that no one would listen to what he had to say if they didn't fully understand who he was. Throughout his ministry, we saw his disciples shift from seeing him as merely a man, the illegitimate son of Joseph, to the Messiah, the son of God. As this revelation took root, so their authority bore fruit. Who we are starts with who Jesus is.
John 8:32 tells us that the "truth" will set us free. So here are three truths to hold onto for today.
- In John 14, Jesus shares more and more with the disciples about who he is. In verse 14, he declares that he is the way, the truth and the light. He declares that he is the only way to God the Father. This statement is foundational to the Christian faith. Jesus is the only way to eternal life with the Father. Through Him, we can be adopted into the family of God. The authority of this statement carries huge weight in our identity foundations.
- According to Ephesians 1:4-5, we see the Father's heart and plan. It declares that the Father decided in advance to adopt us back to Himself through Jesus. This gave him great pleasure as it was the desire of his heart. Therefore, when we go back and read John 14, we see Jesus simply fulfilling the desire of His Father's heart. We are his desire.
- In John 6:35, Jesus declares that those who believe in Him will never hunger nor thirst again. Jesus knows the carnal hunger and thirst of a man's soul, leading them to a striving life that never satisfies. Jesus is declaring the truth that only when their identity is rooted in a relationship with Him will they find the contentment their souls hunger and thirst for.
Therefore, the final step to discovering who you are is aligning your value and worth to the heart of God the Father. Who knew in advance the fallen state we would all be in, therefore, because of His great love for us, he made a plan to rescue us through Jesus.
Who am I?
I am so loved by my heavenly Father, who did everything he could to bring me back to Him. He willingly sacrificed his Son for me so I could have eternal life with Him. When the revelation of this truth sinks in, you will be unstoppable in God's purpose and plans for you. The truth will set you free to liberated living, where failure and success become irrelevant to your value and worth because they are already established in Jesus.
Only the truth can set us free. The truth is a person—his name is Jesus.
