Who’s In Your Neighbourhood?

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Sharing Jesus with others can feel overwhelming, especially when we don’t even know where to start. But it becomes far more approachable when we realize it starts right where we already live, work, and connect with people. Often, we think of evangelism as something that happens “out there” in distant places or by “qualified” individuals, but Jesus modeled a different approach—meeting people in everyday moments with love and truth.

In John 1:14, we learn that God became flesh, in the person of Jesus, and came to dwell among us. The Message translation puts it this way: He “moved into the neighbourhood” (MSG). Jesus intentionally stepped into our world, living among ordinary people and revealing God’s love through His actions and words. He didn’t begin with a crowd; He started with individuals right where He was.

Your “neighbourhood” includes family, friends, coworkers, and even people you see in everyday routines—like your barista, neighbour, or gym partner. God has placed these people in your life for a reason. Instead of overlooking them, see them as opportunities to share His love.

Take a moment to reflect on your daily life:

• Who do you see often but don’t know well?
• Are there people God might be calling you to connect with intentionally?

It starts with small, genuine acts of kindness, conversations, and care. Just as Jesus embraced those around Him, you can make a difference right where you are.
