A GENUINE, LOVING COMMUNITY DOESN’T WAIT, IT ACTS!
“Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it’—when you have it with you.” Proverbs 3:28
I have had many good-intentioned people in my life; Christ believers and non-believers, who say the right things but never act on their words.
The verse highlighted for today’s study speaks about giving and acting in the moment. Each of us can give to a neighbor in need.
Maybe we don’t have the finances, but we all have time and other talents that can be shared.
Have you ever heard the statement made with good intentions?
“Please call me if you need anything; I am here.”
I’ll be the first to admit I’ve used it. It is almost an easy copout when you’re busy because nine times out of 10, in the back of the mind, you know that person won’t call you when they are in need. It is a reminder of Proverbs 3:28.
"Don’t delay doing good for others."
Many nursing home patients and home shut-ins lack a genuine community. Unfortunately, many have been left by the wayside—the very wayside that is told of in the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Luke 10:25-30 May we thing of ways to reach out to those who are lonely and shut-in. May we become the good neighbor; that Good Samaritan.
Prayer: Lord, please help each of us to be doers of the Word. It is easy to speak the Word, but unless we act like a community; act like genuine neighbors outside our walls, we truly are not following the truth that Jesus wants for each of us. Help us to be good neighbors. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

After a recent serious illness, I discovered first-hand how God works through individual communities. This six-day devotional makes us realize that we might not think much about the importance of who our community is—that is until we need one. The church is the community of various denominations who serve outside their walls.
