Being the Church Beyond Sunday

DAY 7 OF 7

Living Beyond Sunday

Brothers, thank you for allowing me to share about being the Church beyond Sunday this week.

We began the week by discussing why attending church is essential. As members of God’s adopted family, we are created to serve our community inside and outside the Church. We acknowledge that COVID made many of us creatures of comfort on Sunday mornings. Still, it is essential to be positive role models for the younger generation and to continue meeting in person. As stated in Hebrews 10:25, “We should not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

The next day, we discussed loving the Church just as Christ loved it. I invited you to consider the Church in a broader context beyond just Sunday services. We need to prioritize the needs of the Church, remembering that it is made up of its people. Brothers, the Church should also be your safe haven, where you can find support and lovingly hold each other accountable.

We explored methods to extend the Church's presence beyond just Sundays. We acknowledged the need to change our perspective and stop viewing the Church as a clandestine group. We proposed redirecting our existing ministries outward, engaging with the local community, and meeting people where they are.

We reflected on how we can be bold, courageous, and faithful to our calling. We can start by serving our community through small actions and sharing our personal stories. It's also essential to advocate for the Church and dispel the misconceptions that surround it. We recognized that we cannot be effective if our faith is limited to Sunday mornings alone.

Finally, we were reminded that we have a Helper in the Holy Spirit. God has provided us with this Helper to reveal Christ to the world. While we can be vessels for His work, we must surrender to the Holy Spirit and accept His guidance. We can use our spiritual gifts for outreach beyond just Sundays. We concluded the week by acknowledging that extending the Church beyond Sundays starts with prayer.

As we implement these things, we will love the Church better, serve others more effectively, and see the Holy Spirit help us take Jesus into our communities.

Prayer: Father, bless every brother with the courage to extend Your Church beyond Sunday. Amen.

Reflection: What specific action item reviewed this week can you implement as you seek to be the Church beyond Sunday?

About this Plan

Being the Church Beyond Sunday

This week, we are exploring the importance of the Church and our commitment beyond just Sunday morning. God loves us every day, not just on Sundays. In reciprocation, men need to reflect His light seven days a week. Let's encourage each other in this mission! Written by Jacques Van Dyk.
