The New Person

That you have become a new person because of Jesus already indicates that Jesus' sacrifice means more than just the forgiveness of your sins. Your old sinful nature has been “eradicated”. It has been completely wiped out, erased, destroyed, obliterated, dissolved, put to death. It is no more! Instead, you have become a “citizen of heaven” (Ephesians 2:1-6).

But there is more! The new person you are now in Christ has been “sealed” by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13), so that sin cannot enter.

That new man, sealed by the Holy Spirit, is immune and dead to sin. You are now (spirit) born of God and cannot sin from that new person. That new person does not think about sin, it does not want to sin and cannot sin.

The new person is perfect in Christ.

The new person is born of an imperishable seed.

1 Peter 1:23
“...having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.”

You were born of blood, flesh, and the will of man. Of a “perishable” seed. But now you have been born of an imperishable seed. You were born of God (John 1:13).

And that “imperishable seed” (the new person) cannot sin! (1 John 3:9)

So your new person cannot sin. He is dead to sin! Which means that sin has “zero” influence on that new person.

Does that mean you never make mistakes again? No, it doesn't. But you don't make those mistakes with your new person, you make them with your flesh. You will learn more about that tomorrow. But remember for now: the new person cannot sin, the Bible is very clear about that.
