Biblical Leadership Series: Lead Like Nehemiahنموونە
Getting Buy-in on the God-Given Vision
A Godly leader is a visionary who knows how to appeal to those who he has been entrusted by God to lead. People must feel a personal connection to the vision and mission, project, assignment, and task otherwise they will lack passion and commitment. And sadly a passionless team member usually translates into a non-committed team member.
When Nehemiah sets out to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem in chapter 1 of Nehemiah, he communicates his heart's desire and mission to rebuild the wall appealing to the emotional connection of the Jews. In so many words, he reminds them that these are also their city walls that are in distress.
He follows up with a personal invitation to be a part of what was in his heart to do, which resulted in the Jews saying “Let us rise up and build.”
The group of Jews were now personally connected to the vision and assignment of Nehemiah, which ignited a fire in them to want to put their hands to work. And that is what they did.
Reflective Questions:
- How did Nehemiah’s communication style inspire the Jews to follow his leadership in rebuilding the wall?
- How can you glean from Nehemiah as you lead teams for a God-given vision?
Prayer:
Lord, please teach me how to invite others to join me in carrying forth your God-given vision. May I lead in such a way where those that are assigned to the team or project see the corporate and individual benefit and feel compelled to join me. In Jesus' name, amen.

About this Plan
The book of Nehemiah shows us how the Lord can impact a nation through the prayers, perseverance and spiritual grit of one leader whose heart is aligned with God’s. The Prophet Nehemiah modeled for us the characteristics of a Godly leader, successfully leading the people in the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was a man of prayer, vision, perseverance, strategy, and courage. Let's take a look at what the Lord wants us to glean from the leadership of Nehemiah in this plan by Evangelist April Snell.
