Fear Is Not My Future | 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

DAY 12 OF 21

Fear is a funny thing. Funny because fear does not always look like fear. Fear does not always have a facial expression attached to it. Sure, we could try to personify fear with a picture of a terrified child running from a barking dog. Or maybe fear would look like an N95 mask with two somber eyes hovering above it. Possibly still, fear might look like an angry man fighting for his Second Amendment rights because he is afraid of losing his freedom. “Easy there,” you might say. “Things are getting a little too political here.” Let us face it. Politics can lay claim to our fear center quicker than a lot of things these days. That is why it can become so polarizing to talk about.

The interesting thing about polarizing discussions is that it amplifies the most subtle problems of the soul. Fear of the unknown. Fear of someone who thinks differently than you. Fear masked in deep pride. Fear that the “good old days” are gone. Fear of the future.

Fear is a motivator, but so is Love. Perfect love casts out fear. If you confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides inside of you. Where God is, Love is also. God is Love.

The love within an earthly marriage pales in comparison to the Love that God has for us, but it does give us a glimmer of what God’s love is like. Scientific discovery has shown that the fear center and love center of one’s brain are in close proximity. When love is at its fullest, fear is nowhere to be found. Our passage today shows that the same principle in romantic love also applies similarly to brotherly love. When we love each other as God loves us, fear is gone.

Take 4 minutes and 18 seconds to meditate on our verse for today.
