Thirst: Is There More?

DAY 2 OF 5

I CAN'T. LORD, CAN YOU?

Pray and read through Psalm 63:1-8.

Do you desire to love the Lord with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength? Do you wonder, though, what that kind of love looks like? Maybe you haven't known how to love Him. Perhaps you have a very difficult time believing that God is loving or that He would ever love you. Maybe you feel like these women: "I just barely survive each day." "I don't know if I have ever felt loved." "I feel very little love in my heart for anyone else."

If you have never turned to God, cried out to Him for mercy, and repented of your self-centered ways, this is the perfect day to do so. Our gracious God stands with His arms open wide. Confess that you are a sinner and cry out to Him for His mercy, believing that He will cleanse you from all of your sin.

Maybe you have known the Lord and experienced His love, but the majority of us do not have the kind of relationship with the Lord we want to have, or the kind He longs for us to have with Him. We have difficulty comprehending the kind of love He has for us and wants for us to know.

Believing that God loves you and desires an intimate relationship with you is the first pivotal step in coming into a radical love relationship with Him. The next is acknowledging your sin and knowing that you can't do it apart from His grace and that there is absolutely nothing to fear because of His grace (1 John 4:18.)

If we are to thirst after God, we must stop filling ourselves with the things of this world, and be filled to the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:14-19). We live in a time when people are so full of self they can't receive the truth. Instead, we must seek first His righteousness: we must humble ourselves, confess our sin of fear and unbelief, turn from our own unrighteous ways, and turn towards God.

Read 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Whom and what does Paul say people will love? Make a mental list. Do any of these describe your sinful, corrupt nature?

In the pattern of Romans 12:2, what is one Scripture from today that the Lord is using to renew your mind and transform your heart? Meditate on this today.
