The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Yearنموونە
Week 8. Day 5. Deuteronomy 11-16.
There are few chapters to read today, but spend most time on ch11, even if you move more quickly through ch12-16.
Before chapters 12-26, which contain the specific requirements of the covenant, chapter 11 sets out the goal of the law: love.
11:1 Love is the goal and motivation for the law. This is exactly in line with what Jesus himself says: ‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments.’ (John 14:15 ESV)
11:18-20 Note the requirement to pass on God’s word (c.f. 6:6-9)
11:26-28 Walking in God’s commandments is the way of blessing.
Deu 12-16 set out the specific requirements of the covenant (i.e. what love of God will look like in practice). This section actually goes from chapters 12 to 26, but for this week, we are stopping at chapter 16.
Ch 16 The different festivals
Do you think it would have been a burden to observe these festivals? Why/why not?
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
