The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Yearنموونە
Week 28. Day 5. Psalms 69-72.
Ps 69-71 Mini ‘David’ collection
Psalm 71 seems to refer to the end of David’s life – this is a fitting Psalm for the end of the section (books 1 and 2) focussed on David
Ps 72 – a prayer for Solomon
This is a prayer written by king David about his son Solomon, praying that he will be a good king. At times is it not clear if this psalm is in the form of a prayer ‘may he rule with justice’ or a promise ‘he will rule with justice’. This makes sense when we realise that everything that David wanted Solomon to be, Jesus would perfectly fulfil. Like Ps 45, this psalm gives us a wonderful picture of the character and rule of Jesus.
- What strikes you about the character of the king?
- What strikes you about the reign of the king?
Note 72:17. It is through this king that the promises of blessing to Abraham (Gen 12:1-3) will be fulfilled.
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
