The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Yearنموونە
Week 18. Day 5. Isaiah 44-48.
These chapters continue to paint a vast picture of God, and the comfort and salvation he is bringing.
Ch 44 What is said about idols here?
How is the picture of idols different from the picture of God given in chapter 40?
Ch 45:1. ‘Cyrus’ is the king who would one day (hundreds of years after Isaiah) send God’s people home from their exile. In these chapters he is sometimes called ‘the one from the north’ or ‘the one from the east’. Even though he was a powerful king, these chapters make the point that it is God who uses him to fulfil God’s purpose of bringing his people home (44:26-28)
Ch 46 This chapter again contrasts God with idols. How are they both described?
Ch 47 This is judgment on Babylon (the oppressor of God’s people) but we can read it as God’s opposition to all evil. This is good news for God’s people!
48:20 Note how this section ends, with the promise of the end of exile!
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
