5 Spiritual Practices for Healing and Transformationنموونە
Study
Did you consider yourself a good student when you were a kid? Did you like to study and work through complex subjects, or were you more of the PE or artsy type? These are important questions because how we approach learning new things plays a major role in our overall commitment to incorporating them into our lives. Regardless of our background, as adults, we can decide to be intentional about our commitment to learning new things that will help us become the best version of ourselves.
When it comes to carving out time for Bible study and our choice of devotionals, it’s easy to get to a place where getting one “done” turns into another “checkmark” on the road to Christian piety. However, God desires that we get more out of spending time in his Word and experience lasting transformation as a result.
The Bible instructs us to study God’s Word to show ourselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15) and to be transformed as we renew our minds (Romans 12:2)—again, with God’s Word. Yet, all the studying in the world will be of no benefit if we have no intention of actually doing it.
That’s why starting with surrender is so important. First, because doing so reminds us that we are not walking this faith walk alone. It’s very easy to take on a “busy spirit” and start doing things for God to disguise when we are not actually following his will. Second, because once surrendered, we can then call on the Holy Spirit for assistance and guidance concerning how to LIVE God’s Word.
The Bible says that God’s Word is alive and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Studying God’s Word is not just a formality but lays the foundation by which the Holy Spirit has something to draw from and bring back to memory (John 14:26) as he transforms you into the image of Christ.
Spiritual Practice #2
STUDY
How long do you study God’s Word every day? This includes not only Scripture reading but memorization as well. It is absolutely true that the Word works when you work it, but you can’t work what you don’t have.
Challenge: Take a moment and watch this short video on how to get the most out of your Bible study time. Then, as the Spirit leads, try to incorporate some of the suggestions into your Bible study time or modify them in ways that work for you.
