Time

DAY 5 OF 5

Do not get tired of doing what is good. You will reap a harvest of blessings at just the right time if you don’t give up. Are you exhausted, weary, and feeling like you are giving up? God wants you to draw strength and encouragement from His Word. If you do not give up, you will reap your harvest. Ecclesiastes 3:11 “…even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” (NLT). Not knowing when (the time) things will fall into place can be very unsettling. And this is often what makes people grow weary and tired.

The Psalmist says in the Passion Translation of Psalm 31:15 “My life, my every moment, my destiny—it’s all in your hands…”. Be encouraged because your life, every moment, time, and destiny are in God's hands. Therefore, you are secure. Nobody can snatch you, your life, and your time from God’s hands. He is the eternal God so don’t panic. You may still be unable to tell when exactly it will be your time, but you are not without hope.

Something exciting happened in John 2. It is the story of the wedding in Cana of Galilee. While the celebrations were in full gear, wine ran out. Mary, Jesus’ mother stepped in and “interceded” for the couple. Jesus’ response was, “My time has not yet come.” How can the One who has times and seasons in His hands say His time has not yet come? However, Mary’s actions were very instructive. John 2:5 “But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” (NLT). I like to believe that this is the key to the question of when (timing) in many situations. When? As you do whatever He tells you to do.

Chronos refers to chronological or sequential time. Kairos signifies a proper or opportune time for action. Remember the crippled man who had been by the pool of Siloam? Remember Abraham and Sarah also. When the set time came, their faith or their lack of it could not stop what God wanted to do. You may feel like you do not have the faith required. I pray that, like in the story of the crippled man, Jesus will override your lack of faith and birth your miracle. Psalm 102:13 “Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.” (KJV). It takes God’s mercy and favour. I particularly like the definition of mercy as not getting what we deserve and favour as getting what we do not deserve. They say that “Grace” = Mercy + Favour. 2 Corinthians 13:14 “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you…” always!
