Acts 5:12-42 | First Loyalty (No Matter What)نموونە
The kingdom of God is breaking in. The present age is waning before the age to come ushered in by Jesus.
Just prior to today’s passage the church witnessed an extraordinary act of judgment against Ananias and Sapphira, and fear seized the whole church. They witnessed a taste of God’s future kingdom judgment. Now, mentioned in a way almost as though it’s too many to count, we see the extraordinary acts of God’s grace being poured out among the people. Even the shadows of the apostles are healing people! They experienced a taste of God’s future kingdom renewal.
What do you do in the face of power like this? How do you respond? It’s no wonder so many were afraid to join them, and yet simultaneously flooded their numbers
We find the believers back in Solomon’s Colonnade, teaching King Jesus and the kingdom he brings, with evidence of its presence as well. Here, the new presence of the people of God continues to upstage the old structure of the temple.
This is the story of Acts, and our story as well. King Jesus is still on the throne, and his kingdom is still breaking in to the world as we know it.
What other ways do you see Jesus’s kingdom breaking into the narrative of the New Testament? How about today?
About this Plan
Acts has an implied question: To whom are you loyal? King Jesus or the powers that be? This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
