Prayer 101

DAY 6 OF 8

In prayer, we are invited to bring our needs to God.

Sometimes, we feel like God has better things to do than hear our prayers. Sometimes, we look at those who need more help than us and want to leave God’s resources for them as if He doesn’t have enough to go around. God is the God of more than enough, and he invites us to pray. He wants to be involved in our lives and guide, direct, protect, and provide for us. If we don’t go to God, we reject part of the relationship God wants and desires for us. This is true in our physical health, finances, relationships, and mental and emotional health. God wants to be part of every part of our life. As Jesus taught his disciples to pray, He taught them to pray for their daily needs (Matthew 6:11). God wasn’t offended by them. He invited them. The Bible is full of promises for us. It tells us in Ephesians 1:3 that Christ has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. In Christ, the promises are yes! (2 Corinthians 1:20) As we pray, there is great power in finding God’s promises to hold on to and pray. One area that often gets forgotten is that God is the prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus said He came to heal the brokenhearted (Isaiah 61:1). He invites us to bring our cares to him (1 Peter 5:7). In Philippians 4:6-7, we are told not to worry, but bring our request with thanksgiving and receive His peace. Today, as we lay hold of God’s promises, let's lift up those who are struggling with their mental health, praying for freedom and for God’s peace to fill them.

Prayers for Peace: Isaiah 9:6; 1 Peter 5:8; Philippians 4:6-7; John 14:27; Proverbs 3:24

Prayers for the Brokenhearted: Isaiah 53:4; Isaiah 61:1; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4; John 14:26 KJV; 2 Corinthians 7:6; Psalm 147:3
