Becoming Weightless

DAY 3 OF 14

Do you feel caught?

Is there something you need every day to be happy?

Currently, I'm rediscovering my love for the treadmill. However, there was a time when I felt compelled to train. Something inside me pushed me onto that treadmill.

Even though I was working as a flight attendant at the time, I managed to go to the gym early in the morning. From there, I went straight to the airport, flew my assigned routes, and landed back at the gym in the evening.

That wasn't healthy anymore, and where in all that stress was there still room for God? Where was my love for Him? My devotion belonged to keeping in shape, and thus took up all my time and energy.

"Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'" (Matthew 22:37 NIV)

This was exactly the answer Jesus gave to the Pharisees when they asked Him what the greatest commandment was. And do you know what the first commandment is?

"I am the Lord your God... you shall have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:1-3 NIV)

The treadmill had somehow become another “god” in my life, receiving all my devotion. Everything revolved around my training plan. And without realizing it at the time, that took away the time and energy for what God had planned for me.

Oops. Please don't get me wrong, exercise is good and important when balanced. I just want to show you that there are things that unconsciously creep in and become "small gods" in our lives without us realizing it.

Is there something in your life that you "need" every day? Something that is so important to you that it could take away the time and energy for what God has planned for you? Then ask God to free you from it, because He is happy to help you with that!

Today is a good day to clean up, because you don't want to miss out on God's plan for your life!

You are a miracle!
