You all need a break
Fatigue comes in many forms. Maybe you’re completely exhausted after a long day of work. Maybe worries are eating away at you, draining your (emotional) energy. Maybe you’re following Jesus and feel attacked in your thoughts, your spirit, your relationship with the Lord Himself. And that makes you tired. Very tired.
Fatigue is one of those things that remind you and me that we are human. That we are not the Messiah.
Jesus is the Messiah.
And He says, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Rest, how I sometimes long for that.
When I’m at the end of my energy, rest.
When I’m at the end of my ideas, rest.
When I’m at the end of my patience, rest.
When I feel burdened, rest in Jesus.
In Jesus… do you hear the invitation?
As with any invitation, you can accept or decline it. Often, I decline and keep pushing forward in my own strength… Tomorrow is a new day, and I’ll try again. Sound familiar?
The invitation still stands.
Come to Me and find rest.
Rest for your body... yes.
But also rest for your soul.
With Jesus, you find rest.
It reminds me of the very beginning, where God speaks, creates, and then rests. He stops — that’s the literal meaning of Sabbath. It’s as if God says, “This is enough for now,” and He stops and enjoys creation together with the first humans, enjoying the unforced connection with one another.
Jesus’ invitation is to be with Him, to enjoy His presence, to… [fill in the blank], to do good, to rest, to live. To fully enjoy life — from a place of rest in being with Jesus, over and over again. So, come!
What will you do?
Take the following questions with you to reflect on:
- Do you need a ‘break’?
- What are you doing with Jesus’ invitation?
- Do you have a set time for rest / Sabbath?
- What does that do for you?
- What does it really mean to ‘take up His yoke’?
Prayer: “Lord Jesus, thank You for Your invitation. Thank You that You know us and understand that we can feel weary and burdened. Today, I want to come to You. I need rest. Will You meet me with Your gentleness? I long for time with You. Amen.”
