(Be) Blessed: Creating a Covenant Lifestyle With Godنموونە
God’s desire to bless His kids is as strong today as it was when He created paradise for Adam and Eve. When it comes to our covenant with God, knowing His character should instill in our hearts reverence for Him along with peace and expectation for what He can do!
In today’s reading we will dive deeper into the first outcome of our, “Yes, Lord.”
Our obedience establishes a firm foundation.
In the book of Exodus, we meet a woman whose “Yes, Lord" not only saves the life of her son but also saves the Israelites who have been captives in Egypt. Moses’ mother had a firm foundation in God. She was born into a Levite family and married a Levite man. The descendants of Levi were commissioned by God to be priests and to carry the Ark of the Covenant. Moses’ mom knew how to war in her prayer closet!
Moses was born in a time when Pharaoh was threatened by the multiplication of the Israelites. He ordered that when a Hebrew boy was born, he was to be thrown into the Nile. Moses’ mother saw that he was special and kept him hidden for three months. Then in a move of desperation to save her son, she laid him in a little makeshift boat and hid him in the reeds of the Nile River. He was found by Pharoah's daughter who took him in. Unable to nurse him, she hired a Hebrew woman to nurse him for her. That woman was Moses’ mother.
Moses would grow up to become a great prophet, rise up against Pharaoh, and set free from captivity the entire nation of Israel.
God used the obedience and prayer of one woman -- a woman whose obedience prompted her to give up her son so he could escape death under the decree of Pharaoh and be raised by an Egyptian woman. Then, in an only-God turn of events, she received her son back to nurse him and then watched him become a great leader to the Israelites.
Without a firm foundation in the Lord, it will always be difficult to give Him our “yes.” As people who love God and desire a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him, we must start by deciding that He and He alone will be our firm foundation.
