Overflowing: Living Abundantly in a Broken Culture

DAY 2 OF 7

Who Jesus Is

As you’ve been spending time in the Word each day and digging deeper into the scriptures, you are likely getting a revelation of who Jesus is and how He impacts your daily life.

Jesus is the show and tell of who God the Father is. Jesus is the clear window through which we can observe the very nature of the God of Creation. Jesus, in every way possible, is the mirror image of God.

When you or I look into the bathroom mirror on any given morning, we see our sleepy selves staring back at us. If Jesus were to look in the mirror, He would see God staring back at Him. Imagine that! Jesus is the manifestation of God in the flesh; Jesus helps us to “get” God.

When Jesus came to earth, He calmed storms, forgave sins, and multiplied provisions. Jesus performed miracles, healed the sick, and raised the dead. That is what God the Father does as well.

Conversation with the Disciples

Jesus was conversing with His disciples one day, explaining to them the relationship He had with God, His heavenly Father. As He wrapped up this enlightening discussion, I imagine Peter was ready to jump up and give Jesus a high five. Perhaps John was aching to wrap Jesus in a loving embrace, and Thomas may have been scratching his head, wondering if it was all true.

And then Jesus firmly announced that not only would His disciples do the works He had accomplished, such as raising the dead, casting out demons, healing sick people, and multiplying provisions, but also that His disciples would do greater works than He did. You and I are His disciples of the twenty-first century and are called to overflow with the works of Jesus.

Jesus, indeed, was the firstborn of creation, and He bids for us to be like Him. We are also petitioned by Him to believe for the greater works. He calls us to be like Him in nature and to join Him in His power. What a marvelous invitation!

DAILY WORDS OF WISDOM:

We are never more like Jesus than when we are serving Him or others. There is no higher calling than to be a servant.
