The Good Shepherd: Revelation 7:17
Sheep can’t fend for themselves, which is why they need a shepherd. In truth, we’re not much different than sheep— shepherding is necessary for our survival. So, what a joy when we realize God has always been the Shepherd of His people, collectively and individually. We find His shepherding all through the Old Testament, and there’s also the promise of a Shepherd to come.
That Shepherd did come! His name is Jesus. The sheep belong to Him, and He knows them. Our Good Shepherd has a personal relationship with His sheep. We can be in a crowd and feel unknown, but in Jesus’ fold, we don’t get lost. He knows each of us by name. He knows our background, tendencies, and vulnerabilities. He knows where we’re tempted and tested, and He knows our needs.
This Good Shepherd leads His sheep. He goes before them. He knows the terrain, and He can lead them through the most difficult places. Will you let Him lead you?
Make It Personal:
How does knowing that Jesus is your Shepherd encourage you today? How has He led you through difficult places in the past?
