BOLDLY READ GOD’S WORD
These days, you can grab your phone, open a Bible app, and read any verse in seconds. You can watch videos of celebrities reading Scripture or listen to audiobooks of the entire Bible. And, of course, there are the printed Bibles in our homes and churches and libraries.
God’s Word is more accessible today than ever before.
But at the same time, we live in a busy world full of distractions and dangers brought about by technology. The Enemy is only a tap away, waiting to deceive us. That’s why we need to rely on the Word of God even more each day. That’s why we need to hide Scripture in our hearts (Psalm 119:11).
Many of us find it hard to regularly designate time to be still and present before God, to meditate on Scripture for even a few moments. I’ve discovered that I love to listen to the Bible while I’m getting ready in the morning. This practice is beneficial in my busy life to maintain my spiritual growth. I’m often surprised that even when I hear the same scriptures over and over again, I can still get a fresh revelation from God. That’s why the Bible is called the living Word, “sharper than any two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12). It speaks to us today. It speaks to us in the moment.
Amid all the busyness, how can you make time for God’s Word? Does it mean taking a break from social media to instead scroll through Scripture? Maybe do what I do and listen to the Bible while getting ready for work. Find something that works for you. Be vigilant about it. Hide Scripture in your heart—repeat it to yourself, memorize it, sing it, write it on note cards.
Growing up, I didn’t need a Bible app—I had my father. The Word of God was embedded in his heart. He was a Bible teacher and emphasized how important it was to hide the Word of God in my own heart. That’s my foundation. And that’s what I pass to you: Make Scripture your foundation.
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Holy Word. Help me to find ways to hear from You every day. In Your Son’s name, amen.
About this Plan
Are you feeling tired or anxious today? This 5-day devotional reminds us that sitting at the feet of Jesus gives us the energy and focus we need to move forward in hope. Sitting at Jesus’ feet is not just about listening for His Word. It’s about worshipping Him. It’s about talking with Him. It’s about believing that He will give us boldness and courage to follow His call.
