Jesus Christ Is All in Allنموونە
Jesus Christ is the origin of eternal life
“He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.” (Colossians 1:18)
In the last few days we read that Jesus Christ has always existed and that He has the whole world in His hands. In that context, the words “the Firstborn from the dead” do not seem to fit. How can an eternal God be associated with the dead?
Yet it is so. God the Son chose to become man. And as a man, He also died. He was condemned to death as a criminal and executed by the Romans. Why exactly is this mentioned here, in a section that seeks to emphasize Jesus' greatness? Because Jesus' death was not a defeat. It was part of His plan to save the world. He did not stay in the grave, but conquered death. Thus He had the supremacy in everything. He was already the origin of the old creation. Now He also became the origin of the new creation, of eternal life over which death has no control.
Jesus is “the Firstborn from the dead.” That includes a promise. Everyone who believes in Him will also rise from the dead. Jesus paved the way. We may follow Him. We may be part of His new creation.
Do you understand how Jesus' death can be a victory? Try to put this into words for yourself!
About this Plan
Jesus Christ is greater than all. By Him all things were created, and in Him all things hold together. Moreover, in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and He forgives us all our trespasses, reconciling to God all things, whether on earth or in heaven. If we are united with Jesus, there’s nothing more to long for. He really is all in all!
