God's Attributes Reflected in Usنموونە
Becoming holy in God’s eyes
“Put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24)
We saw how God’s holiness contrasts with our sinfulness, and thus creates separation between the Lord and us. We can’t solve that problem ourselves. We only make it worse day by day... But God created a possibility to bridge the gap between Him and humanity!
God the Son was ready to take the guilt of our sins upon Himself. By dying in our place, He bore the penalty we deserved. Through His atoning death, our sins are “washed away” so that we become clean again and can stand before God. We are “sanctified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (see 1 Corinthians 6:11).
God not only cleans us from the sins we did in the past. If this was the case, we would not stay “holy” for long! But He keeps forgiving us and also frees us from our sinful desires so that we have the freedom not to sin. Through faith, we can take up the new nature that God has prepared for us, and live in a way that pleases God. The Holy Spirit, who dwells in the hearts of believers, transforms us so that we “might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness” (Luke 1:74-75).
Can you imagine that God sees you as holy if you accept His offer of forgiveness? Do you see yourself as holy?
About this Plan
God created humans “in His image.” This means that in a sense we resemble our Creator. But to what extent is this still true? And to what extent has sin broken this image of God? This reading plan examines various attributes of God and how they are reflected in us.
