Strong Girls: Beauty, Brains, Brawn, and Brilliance

DAY 2 OF 5

Beauty – Made to be Virtuous

When we say “Strong Girls have Beauty,” we are referring to presence & virtue. And that is God’s design for girls.

You may have heard that “beauty is only skin deep.” That means that the outer physical appearance doesn’t determine who that person is on the inside. Outward beauty can’t change a person’s heart or character.

You may have also heard the saying, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” But true human beauty is in the eye of the Creator. The one who created it all gets to define what is truly beautiful. It’s up to each one of us to seek and discover what God sees as true beauty and then align our hearts with His.

God designed human beauty from the inside out. God never uses external beauty to determine the beauty of a human being. And while people certainly can be attractive and beautiful, that always depends on who is judging. When God was choosing a king, he chose David because David loved God and wanted to live for Him. His brothers were more handsome, impressive, and strong, but God cares more about the inside than the outside appearance.

God determines beauty based on inside qualities. Those qualities are called virtues, and every one of us can develop these virtues and become a truly beautiful person from the inside out. It’s God’s design – you are made to be virtuous.

Here is a starter list of the most commonly accepted virtues that have the most positive transformational impact on who you are as a person – honesty, wisdom, discipline, justice, courage, humility, gratitude, generosity, positivity, curiosity, fortitude, resilience, diligence, obedience, perseverance, faith, hope, love, mercy, compassion, purity, patience, kindness, joy, contentment, and zeal.

When you intentionally focus on developing these virtues, God makes them part of who you are. When you live out these virtues and allow the Spirit of God to lead you, you will produce what God calls fruit in your life. Fruit can be “inside” (character) and “outside” (actions).

You can develop these virtues over time as you seek to be transformed into the image of Jesus. Be patient, but be intentional to focus on displaying these virtues in everyday situations.

Beauty is demonstrated in your thoughts, words, attitudes, emotions, and actions.

Everyone can have beauty because everyone can be virtuous. You are made to be virtuous.
