Today, we are looking at the final biblical principle to help you work for God’s glory: The principle of being a servant.

Our lives, including our work, are not really about us. We were created for God’s purpose and glory. Remember, we work to receive an inheritance from our heavenly Father (Colossians 3:23-24). If we adopt this view of life, our work will take a completely different perspective. It is not about climbing the corporate ladder to the corner office. It is about serving others to glorify God.

As mentioned in Romans 12:15-17, “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.”

The workplace is full of people that need help. If we focus on others, we can serve our co-workers greatly.

This is especially true if you are a leader of people. If you haven't heard about it, please consider a management style called “Servant Leadership.” It is based on Christian principles (Mark 10:42-45). A servant-leader focuses primarily on the development and well-being of his people and the team to which they belong. Traditional leadership generally focuses on gaining power for oneself through the demand and control of people. Servant leadership empowers others.

Don’t only do good within the boundaries of your job description, but go one step further and look for opportunities to help your coworkers, even outside your direct team or responsibilities.

Prayer: Our heavenly Father, we ask for courage to serve our co-workers. We want to be there for them in the good and challenging times. Show us how to help. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
