The Power of Your Dreamsنموونە
THE SOUL’S INTAKE
Biblically, the soul is the seat of our intellect and emotions (what we commonly think of as our mind and heart), as well as experiences and free will. What you expose your soul to can either bring clarity or contaminate messages from God. It is for this reason that Satan is an enemy of your soul (Psalm 143:3).
What we consume visually, audibly, or experientially, through what we watch, read, listen to, or experience daily, is part of the soul’s intake. This exposure has the power to influence our thoughts and emotions in either a positive or negative way. As believers, it’s essential that we choose our intake wisely, because anything that leaves us inspired, encouraged, and full of faith is good for our soul (Philippians 4:8); while anything that leads us to negative thoughts, emotions, and patterns is bad for the soul.
Spending time in God’s Word is like giving our minds a healthy meal. God's Word helps us think the way God wants us to. This is also why worship is so transformative. The Word allows us to set our minds on God; which shifts our focus away from fear and anxiety toward faith and confidence in Him. As Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
Now, here’s the connection to dreams. What we let into our minds and hearts before sleeping can impact the types of dreams we have. Negative or fearful things might lead to nightmares, but positive and faith-filled content creates a better environment for receiving messages from God. So be mindful about what you focus on before bedtime.
Instead of horror movies or negative media, try reading the Bible, listening to worship music, or praying. That way, you’re preparing yourself to be more sensitive to the Holy Spirit, increasing the chances of having dreams that bring messages and insights from God.
What do you tend to let into your soul before sleep, whether through books, movies, music, or other sources? How could you change your bedtime habits to become more receptive to God?
