Daily Bible Reading— September 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Wisdomنموونە
September 21
Introduction
Psalm 119:97–112: Today’s reading begins with a reflection on the value of studying and thinking about the law of the LORD. It can provide wisdom even beyond that which comes with age and experience.
Today’s Key Verse: Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.
Reflect
The Jewish Scriptures (known to Christians as the Old Testament) reveal two important understandings of wisdom. First, true wisdom belongs to God and comes from God. Second, God’s wisdom is revealed in the law that God gave to Moses and the people at Mount Sinai. In the New Testament, we learn that Jesus himself is the Word of God and the wisdom of God (for example, John 1:14, 17 and 1 Corinthians 1:18–30). Do you see pointers to Jesus in this Psalm? In what ways is God’s Word like a lamp to guide you? In what ways do you seek to apply your knowledge of God’s ways to the situations you face in your daily life?
Pray
Almighty God, let my wisdom and understanding grow through studying and experiencing your word. May I be a careful, patient student of your teachings, so that I may serve you with an obedient heart. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Psalm 119:113–128: The psalmist expresses hope in God’s promises.
