Your booth

The people of Israel traveled through the desert for 40 years. They lived in tents, were particularly vulnerable, and had to (learn to) rely on the Lord's provision. Water, food, protection – the Lord provided them all, but it was a deep lesson of trust for the people.

To remember that, the Israelites had to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles – a recurring reminder of trusting in the Lord.

Re-innering. Literally - bringing in again. Remembering. I don't know about you, but in the rush and speed of this life, sometimes I really need that. To pause for a moment. To remember.

After all, how much has God done for us? Do you ever dwell on that? What is your "feast of praise"? What does your booth, your hut, your tabernacle look like?

As we commemorate, you come across a beautiful phrase in The Chosen: "These huts are a leveler." We need that because if we can bring them-and-me, you-and-us, rich-and-poor, big-and-small together, we can really start to share. In the tabernacle, that happened around the table and around the meal. I think that is something for all times.

Have you noticed that when we eat together we get closer together? Maybe we should eat together a little more often. Maybe we need to get out of our homes a little more often. Maybe we should look for places where we can get on the same "level" and level more often. And then really see each other, really meet.

• What would your hut, your tabernacle look like?
• Who can you invite into it?

Prayer: "Lord, You invite me to remember. Today I want to do that and tell You how grateful I am for [...]. You are there, then and now. Always You remain the same. I want to always remember that. And Lord, help me to do that also together with others. Learn from one another - share - witness. And in that way, help us celebrate the good life with You. Amen."
