Love and Mercy
The woman in Luke 7 recognized who Jesus was and washed His feet with her perfume. The Bible says that she lived a sinful life but that her faith in Christ saved her. She, who was guilty of much, was forgiven much. She experienced amazing grace and undeserved mercy. She loved Jesus and did what she could to worship Him. Have you ever received a speeding ticket? Then you most likely deserved it. But have you ever deserved a speeding ticket and the officer let you off the hook? What a huge relief! That’s mercy. The Bible tells us that the punishment for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life (Romans 6:23). The sinful woman didn’t deserve mercy, and neither do we. But through Christ, we have been forgiven much. God’s Word says that if you’ve been given much, much is expected (Luke 12:48). This applies to many situations. Have you been given love and mercy? Yes, indeed! Then you’re expected to show love and mercy in return.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I don’t deserve what You have done for me. Help me to remember how much I’ve been forgiven so that I can extend that love and mercy to others. Amen.
