Seven Biblical Principles on Finances

DAY 2 OF 8

Principle #1 – The principle of purposeful spending

The first time the word “money” is seen in the Bible is in Genesis 17:12. In that verse, God was telling Abraham about circumcising male children born in his house as well as foreign slaves purchased to work. Oh yes, in those days, they used to buy human beings as enslaved people – but not today. You may ask, why did Abraham need to buy slaves? It was because he was a blessed man, and there was so much work to do that he needed an extra labour force to help him.

You cannot get everything you need by manufacturing it yourself. That is why you must spend money to purchase those products and services that meet your needs. For example, I bought my laptop with money because I can’t manufacture it myself. And that holds for some possessions I have by God’s grace. So yes, money isn’t just about saving or investing; it’s also about spending.

However, many people abuse this principle because they don’t understand it. Money can buy so many things. But according to God’s Word, you must spend it purposefully. Otherwise, you’ll waste it. Any money spent illegally or money spent to intentionally harm your health or others is not pleasing to God.

It’s not everything you need in life; just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you should buy it. Pay for things that bring God’s purpose to manifestation in your life, not just anything flashy you see. Receive the grace to spend money with divine wisdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

You’re a blessing.
