Daily Bible Reading— August 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Faithنموونە
August 11
Introduction
Judges 6:1–27: After forty years of peace, the people of Israel once again sin against the LORD. The people of Midian rule over them for seven years, and the Israelites cry out to the LORD for help. An angel of the LORD appears to Gideon with the message that Gideon has been chosen to rescue the Israelites from the Midianites.
Today’s Key Verse: Judges 6:12
The LORD’s angel appeared to [Gideon] there and said, “The LORD is with you, brave and mighty man!”
Reflect
Reread verses 2–6. Besides attacking the Israelites, what else did the Midianites do? What message did the prophet deliver from the LORD (verses 8–10)? When an angel of the LORD spoke to Gideon (verses 11–12), how did he respond to the angel’s message (verse 13)? Why did he ask for proof (verse 17)? Why did Gideon think he was not the right person to rescue Israel (verse 15)? Have you ever been called upon to do a task that you felt was beyond your capabilities? If so, what did you do? What action did Gideon take in response to what the LORD asked him to do (verses 25–27)?
Pray
Sovereign God, you alone are God, and I worship you and praise your holy name. You are my true source of strength, and I place my trust in you. Amen.
