Selah Day: God is to be Praised
As we noted yesterday, the prayer of petition always has an element of praise. And so today we are going to praise our way through Psalm 103.
This incredible Psalm of David has the same outline as we noted in Daniel 2:
- Remembrance of who God is.
- Remembrance of what he has done.
- Thankfulness for what he is doing.
Establishing a foundation of praise in your life is not about denying the reality of the circumstances you face, but knowing that God is bigger than those circumstances.
It's just like Abraham did, recalled in Romans 4:18-21. Paul notes that Abraham faced the reality that his body was dead and so was Sarah's womb, but he did not remain in that doubt, he was strengthened and gave glory to God (praised) because he was fully persuaded that God had the power to do what he had promised.
That is what David does in Psalm 103, he remembers God, remembers what he has done, and gives thanks. So today as you pray through Psalm 103, we pray that your courageous prayer would be based in the knowledge of your God, what he has done and is about to do and you will praise him!
Prayer for today
Lord, as I pray through Psalm 103 today, I pray that the same heart that David had you would help me to have. The heart that does not forget your benefits, the heart that remembers you is slow to anger, abounding in love. That you are established on your throne in heaven and I will praise you for all your works!
