What Matters Most (The Book of 2 Timothy)

DAY 13 OF 20

REFLECT

Disney’s Frozen is the highest-grossing animation film ever, according to The New Yorker. If you’re unfamiliar with the story, Elsa and Anna are two princesses who lose their parents in the first 5 minutes of the movie. Elsa holds a special power, only she doesn’t understand how to control it. Neither does anyone else. I don’t want to give away the movie ending but Elsa’s plight is that while she acknowledges the power, she simply longs to be freed of it instead of embracing it. The entire movie cast doesn’t deny the power exists, but they completely disregard its potential for good.

Today’s Bible passage continues with yesterday’s theme; Paul continues to explain the terrible times ahead of the church. Verse 5 identifies what makes the people described so very scary. They don’t completely deny that God exists; they simply don’t believe in his power. They are ever seeking to educate themselves but ignore the deepest truths of God’s Word.

God isn’t simply an existence; He holds the whole world in his hands. The power and truth of His Word have never changed and never will. Every man’s word must be measured according to God’s.

PRAY

Father, let Your Word be the complete filter for truth every day of my life. No matter how wicked the world digresses, make my heart in tune with your gospel. Amen.

CHAT

Do you know someone who believes God exists, but doesn’t believe who God really is? What is the deepest truth from God’s Word that you are celebrating today?
