I Want God: How to Love Him With Your Whole Heart and Revive Your Soulنموونە
Day 4: More Than a Blessing
Abraham was not blessed because he was a great guy. He was blessed because he lived a life of faith. He wanted to obey God first, and by so doing, he put himself in a position for God to both use him and bless him. And though his outward blessings were great (Gen. 24:34–35), the things he experienced God do through him far exceeded them all. He fathered an entire nation of people. He walked intimately with God, which made him blessed indeed.
And isn’t this what we really want, friends? To know that our life will matter beyond what we do here? Is living the God-adventure not the real blessed life?
God wants to bless us. We are His loves, His children, and when there is a good gift on this earth, it is from Him. He wants us to know blessings now so we will have a tiny taste of all we will enjoy in a perfect, untarnished life in heaven. He blesses us with spiritual fuel to keep going when it’s hard and provides sweet springs of spiritual water in an otherwise desert world. If there are blessings for you on this earth, friend, they are no accident, so drink them in, all the while echoing the gratitude of the psalmist: “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me” (Ps. 103:2).
When it comes to blessing, as with everything else, God is looking for the relationship with Him to come first. We don’t use God to get what we want. Instead, we have the kind of relationship with Him where we can ask Him for anything. No request is too big or too 'out there'. His heart and hands are open to the ones who He knows have already proven themselves to be faithful to Him.
Reflect:
How can I prioritize my relationship with God over seeking blessings, trusting that His gifts are expressions of love and not mere transactions?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for blessing me with the knowledge that You love me, You have rescued me, I am Yours, and that knowing You is the greatest adventure I could hope to live. Amen.
