Journey to Sharing Jesusنموونە
Day 8: How can I share the gospel?
We have come a long way from thinking about why we want to share Jesus with others. Now, we finally get to do it! There are many gospel presentations out there. How do you know which one to choose?
Different cultures react to sin differently. If someone is from an honor-shame culture (usually Eastern), they might benefit from hearing how Jesus wants to remove their shame and restore their honor. If people are from a guilt-innocence culture (usually Western), they may need to hear that Jesus can take away their guilt and make them right before God. If people are from a fear-power culture (usually tribal), they may need to know how Jesus is more powerful than evil spirits.
A great resource to help you share the gospel is the GodTools app. It provides various ways to share the gospel in different cultures and languages. You can open the app with a person and invite them to read it with you. It’s like having an evangelism track on your phone. This will help clearly share the gospel with people from different cultures and even those who speak different languages. Please download the app and read through the various gospel presentations to feel better equipped when an opportunity arises.
No matter the culture of the person we are talking with, at the end of sharing how Jesus came, died, and rose again so that we can have a restored relationship with God, it is important that we bring them to a point of decision. It’s not enough to share the gospel story. We must invite people to the point of surrender. They must confess Jesus is Lord, turn from their sins, and decide they want to follow Jesus with their life. It is not a quick ticket to heaven. Or a magic prayer to be forgiven. It is a prayer of trust and surrender, believing they will be given a new life with Jesus that starts now and continues through eternity. Asking someone, “Would you like to decide to follow Jesus today?” might be the most important question you ask someone, so please don’t end the conversation without it.
Reflect on: What’s your next step to be ready to share Jesus with others?
- Memorize some questions to ask.
- Make a list of non-believers and pray for them.
- Write what intrigues you most about Jesus.
- Download the GodTools app and read over the gospel presentations.
- Have lunch with a friend and ask them spiritual questions.
- Practice sharing the gospel with a safe friend.
Ask God to show you what your next step is, and then choose to make it a priority in your life in the week ahead. Be expectant that if you follow His lead, you will see people decide to follow Jesus.
