Anxious About Money: How to Break the Cycle

DAY 1 OF 3

It's easy to find ourselves consumed by the weight of financial worries. It almost feels inevitable at times.

Whether it's the fear of not having enough, the stress of crippling debt, or the uncertainty of the future, money anxiety can cloud our minds, dampen our spirits, and distract us from our relationship with the Father. But take heart, for there is hope and a path to peace amidst the storm of financial anxiety.

Over the next three days, we will think of actionable ways to break the cycle. Welcome to Day One: the foundation.

Let’s dive in!

Embrace Gratitude:

The first step in overcoming money anxiety is to cultivate a spirit of gratitude. Take a moment each day to reflect on the blessings in your life, no matter how small they may seem. From the roof over your head to the food on your table, there is always something to be thankful for. Shifting your focus from scarcity to abundance can help ease anxiety and bring a sense of peace.

Create a Financial Plan:

As a debt-free advocate who also worked their way out of thousands of dollars of credit card debt, education is key. Take the time to create a realistic budget and financial plan that aligns with your goals and values. Break down your expenses, prioritize saving, and set achievable milestones. Having a clear roadmap can provide a sense of control and direction, helping to alleviate anxiety about money. I offer several free resources on my blog and website if you’re looking for a place to start.

Keep Prayer at the Center:

In the midst of financial stress, it's crucial to stay present and prayerful. Instead of dwelling on past mistakes or worrying about the future, focus on God’s promise. Immerse yourself in His word to center yourself and calm your mind. Remember that you are more than your bank account balance, and your worth is not determined by your financial status. You are a child of the Most High and that’s the most precious gift of all.

While money anxiety may feel overwhelming at times, it shouldn’t define your life. By embracing gratitude, creating a financial plan, and staying prayerful, you can take proactive steps to overcome financial stress and find peace in the present moment. Stay strong, stay hopeful, and know that better days are ahead.

Heavenly Father,

As we come before you, we are reminded of your promise in Matthew 7:7: 'Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.'

We humbly seek your guidance and wisdom as we embark on our journey to financial freedom. Grant us the courage to ask for help when needed, the perseverance to seek opportunities for growth, and the determination to knock on doors of opportunity.

We trust in your ability to provide and believe that as we seek your will, you will guide us along the path to financial stability and abundance.

In your mercy and grace, hear our prayer and lead us towards the blessings you have prepared for us.

In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

On the next day, we’ll move from the foundation to the action plan. See you there!
