God’s Creation

DAY 5 OF 5

Spirit-Power—Invested in Humanity

Genuine power is spiritual. The unseen world of the spirit is more real than the seen world of our physical senses. One biblical writer expresses it this way, “By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” (Hebrews 11:3). The material world reflects in tangible form the realities existent in the spiritual world.

The Spirit of God, which is unseen, created the world, which is seen. All real power emanates from a spirit source. God is Spirit, with no beginning and no ending (John 4:24). The angels are ministering spirits sent to serve all who will inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14). Satan is a spirit, a created being (Ephesians 2:2).

It is not just God and supernatural beings who are spiritual. Humans have spirits, as they were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26–27). Though we live in a physical body, our unseen spirit animates our physical body. While we relate to this physical world through our natural senses, we relate to the invisible world through our spiritual senses (2 Corinthians 4:18). Our spirits were designed for continual, life-sustaining union with God. We were not created to live separate from Him. Everything about the human person is designed for and naturally craves this spiritual connection and sense of identification with the Creator (1 Corinthians 2:10–12). God’s Spirit is life-giving (Genesis 2:7, Psalm 104:27–30).

So, how did death come into the picture? How did humans become separated from God’s life-giving Spirit? What happened? Satan’s deception. God did not force Himself on His human creation. He endowed Adam and Eve with the power to choose whether or not to remain in relationship with Him. Sadly, their choice resulted in estrangement from their Creator. All that follows in the saga of human history evolves out of Adam and Eve’s choice. God’s big picture includes the solution to this problem. It concerns God’s unchanging plan for His entire human creation.

God, I do not always understand that all real power is spiritual. Help me to be aware of my spirit’s longing for You and Your Spirit’s presence with me. Help me choose life.
