How Do I Know God Loves Me? God’s Love in Genesis

DAY 3 OF 3

God's love for you echoes for eternity.

I’ve mentioned how most people only think of "origin stories" through the context of superhero adventures. Obviously, the impact of our genesis reaches far beyond entertainment. It echoes in eternity.

But…

What if our origin story is still a little like that?
Epic and supernatural.

"Divine Love
bent
descended into dirt.
formed
mankind from dust.
loaned
him a rib appointed for her.
breathed
man to life.
claimed
from the ribcage of life-breathed man.
crafted
life-breathed woman.
saturated
human fibers with His likeness.
Sovereign Sower
planted both
in the Garden called delight.
empowered both
to rule as royal representatives.
graced both
with gift and function to execute and enjoy." (Jen Weaver, "God Created" in A Beckoning to Wonder)

God always planned for our good. He created us up close and personal. Humanity wasn’t an accident, happy or otherwise. It was God’s intentional choice to infuse us with His likeness and to empower us by His authority. And not just us, YOU specifically.

You’ve always been loved.

Do you know God deemed you worthy of His love before the first human did a single thing? His love for you is as eternal as He is.

But most of us live according to lesser stories.
Smaller stories about God.
Broken stories about us.

Even personal origin stories can misinform our identities as we repeat over ourselves words of rejection or shame or fear. Or we get caught in the unhealthy cycle of trying to work for worth instead of working from worth. I know I've been stuck there before.

But as your Creator, God proclaims your identity. The One who made you knows you, loves you, and He calls you by name. You are His.

And yes, Genesis 3 includes humanity’s first sin. But darkness never overcomes light. God has always had a plan for our rescue. His story continues, and we’re still included in it.

God invites you to plant both feet soil-deep in your origin story.

As you read these last verses today, imagine yourself experiencing them as you walk in the cool of the day with your Creator in the garden called Delight.

With each step, God's character is on display. His kind, loving nature is clear.

Find comfort in the truth of GOD's identity. Listen to His voice. Listen to what He says over you and learn to repeat those words with conviction and courage.
