The Care Project

DAY 7 OF 7

When the Tank is Empty

The world needs people who live lives of caring for others. But there’s always a risk of using up all our energies in the process of care. When we are intentionally looking out for the needs of others, we can quickly find ourselves drained. Ever had one of those moments when you’ve just had enough of people? If you’re like me, those moments tend to come when I’m disconnected from God. We all need to be filled up with care even as we fill others up. God has provided the solution in the Person of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is what empowers us to care for others. It is by His Spirit we can love others in a meaningful way. That’s why the Bible talks about being “filled with the Holy Spirit”. We even see a similar image in the Old Testament when people’s “eyes were opened” to see things or when they were empowered to accomplish an impossible task. God provides the strength and resources we need to care for people effectively. If we ever find ourselves burned out from caring for others, chances are we’ve been doing it from our human energies and not from the Spirit of God.

Ask God each day to fill you with His Spirit. Then when opportunities to care come around, you can offer care from his strength and not from your limited reserves.

DAILY OPPORTUNITY

Take a day to recharge yourself by spending some extra time praying and reading scripture. Maybe purchase a new book that focuses on your relationship with God or the work of the Holy Spirit.
