Understandably, Mary would be distraught in the moments after finding Jesus’ empty tomb. Imagine going to a graveyard to find where someone was buried, but all of a sudden, they’re not there anymore. You’d have so many emotions! But what happens as a result of Mary’s emotions is something all of us can experience, too. She was so caught up in her feelings that she missed what she was looking for. Jesus was standing right in front of her, and, somehow, she missed him! What should be clear can become confusing when your emotions are so elevated. While you don’t want to bypass your feelings, you do want to make sure you’re not letting them lead you to miss what’s going on.
Today, set aside ten minutes. Spend the first five writing down every emotion you’re feeling. Once you’re aware of them, spend the next five asking God to speak to you with clarity through them.
