Patience
As we embark on this Advent devotional, we find ourselves nearing the end of a journey of anticipation - a journey that has required patience. Advent is a time of waiting and preparation, a time to reflect on the patience exemplified in the Christmas story.
In the haste of our modern world, patience is often overlooked as a virtue. Yet, it was patience that Mary and Joseph displayed as they awaited the birth of the promised Messiah. Imagine the uncertainty they must have felt and the questions that raced through their minds. Still, they trusted in God's plan and waited with hopeful expectation.
This season, we can also learn from their example. As we anticipate the celebration of Christ's birth, we can reflect on the patience required of us. Patience in our busy schedules, patience in our relationships, and patience in our faith.
The Advent season reminds us that waiting is not a waste of time. In our impatience, we often overlook the beauty of the journey. The process of waiting allows us to grow and become more like Christ. It's in these moments of patience that we learn to trust in God's timing, even when it doesn't align with our own.
As we decorate our homes, exchange gifts, and sing carols, let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas – the birth of our Savior, Jesus! In our rush to celebrate, may we also take moments to pause, reflect, and patiently listen for the still, small voice of God.
Advent invites us to focus on the promise of Christ's return. Just as we eagerly await His second coming, we can take comfort in the knowledge that God is always faithful to His promises. Our patience is not in vain; it is a testament to our faith.
So, as we journey through this Advent devotional, let us embrace patience as a gift. Let it remind us of the hope we have in Christ, the hope that anchors our souls in the midst of life's storms. May our hearts be filled with gratitude for the patience of Mary and Joseph and the patience of our Heavenly Father. And as we patiently wait, may our hearts burn with anticipation, knowing that the greatest gift of all is just around the corner!
Reflection/Prayer
How have you personally experienced the challenge of patience in your life, especially during the holiday season? Spend some time in prayer asking God to give you the same patience that Mary and Joseph had and practical ways to live it out.

About this Plan
By mid-December, many already hate Christmas. We are tired of the carols and the parties, and our tree is starting to die. There are a lot of reasons that people hate Christmas. But, what if all of the hatred is because what we hoped for isn’t reality? This year, set aside the hate and come expecting something new as we dive into Advent themes of the season.
