5 Days of Taking Leaps of Faith

DAY 5 OF 5

The Author of Your Story

Over the years, I have read volumes of books on the topic of destiny. If we are not careful, our familiarity with the word destiny can make it less impactful than what it was designed to mean. Destiny is not a mysterious idiom left over from medieval times. Hidden in that word is a vault of truth that is more valuable than what colloquial terms or popular phrases let on. One Hebrew translation of destiny is “to breathe.” If we consider that definition, then the full meaning of destiny includes our next breath.

I often think of how God put Adam into a deep sleep so that God could pull something new out of him. The Bible doesn’t reveal exactly how long Adam was down for the count—maybe hours, maybe days. Either way, God used Adam’s rest time to call his destiny into existence. If you have been asking God for direction, I encourage you to keep a journal close by your nightstand. Dreams can be a foreshadowing of divine opportunities.

I will be the first to tell you that the distance between dreams and destiny can span longer than we like to imagine. Not every divine dream comes to pass quickly or without conflict. As much as I would like to tell you about a dream that didn’t involve a rival, I cannot think of one. Joseph is the perfect example of how wicked people can get in the way of what God has promised. Although enemies cannot shut down the plans of God, they can attempt to pull the pleasure right out of our appointment with purpose. Even after the dreams God gave me came to pass, I had to face controversy, fight off contentious people, and determine to hold on to the promises of God.

Although I cannot guarantee you will have dreams without dream destroyers or prophecies without those who hope you fail, I can assure you that God, the author of those dreams, will watch over them and you. It is reassuring to know that the author of our story composed the first page and will sign off on the final page.
