Jesus Style Leadership 4 - Sent & Teamنموونە
How Teams Work
Leadership Lesson
The Trinity provides a picture of how team members work together.
Read John 14:15–21.
Comment
In Genesis 1, we saw that God described himself as “us.” But how does the Trinity work together as one God? This reading makes it clear that the Father, Jesus, and the Spirit have separate roles and yet work in perfect unity as a team, supporting each other and backing each other up. For example, in this Scripture, Jesus promises that the Father will send his Spirit as our Helper who will live in us (14:16). That seems straightforward - Jesus asks, the Father sends, and the Spirit comes. But it’s not as simple as that. Jesus says that He is in the Father (14:20), and yet He will come to us (14:18) and be in us (14:20). This is the way a team works. There may be different main responsibilities, but everyone on the team supports and serves the other members of the team. Like the Trinity, a team does it together, whatever that takes. If you are only concerned about achieving your goals or getting the job done, you won’t build a team. Team means sharing together, being there for each other, listening to each other, making decisions together, and working together. Working as a team may not seem as efficient as individuals doing their own thing, but it is far more effective. Like God, we do it best together.
Prayer
I find it difficult to understand how you are both one and three, Lord, but I know that it’s true. Sometimes I see you as one God, and at other times I think of you more as three separate persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This blows my mind. You are so much bigger and smarter than me. But I do get a glimpse of the way You work together, and I so much want this for the teams in which I am involved.
Personal Reflection
Do you mainly focus on your personal responsibilities in your team, or do you back up the others and help them look good? In what ways could you contribute more to the team?
