Elisha and The Law of Process
Have you ever found yourself impatiently waiting for God’s promises to be fulfilled?
Perhaps you’re in a season of transition, longing for the next step or breakthrough. In moments like these, we can learn valuable lessons from Elisha, the prophet who succeeded Elijah.
Elisha’s journey exemplifies The Law of Process.
In 2 Kings 2, Elisha is walking alongside his mentor, Elijah. Elisha knew that Elijah’s time on Earth was coming to an end, and he desired to receive a double portion of Elijah’s anointing. However, instead of receiving this blessing immediately, Elisha went through a process of preparation and perseverance.
First, Elisha demonstrated his commitment to the process by refusing to leave Elijah’s side. When Elijah tested his resolve by telling him to stay behind, Elisha boldly declared, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.”
Second, Elisha remained attentive and teachable. He observed Elijah’s every move, learning from his wisdom and character. Elisha recognized that he needed to be transformed before stepping into his calling. He embraced the process of becoming before the time of receiving.
Third, Elisha was tested. As they journeyed, the other prophets reminded Elisha that his master would be taken. Yet, Elisha pressed on, undeterred by the discouragement. He understood that the process would refine his faith preparing him for the mantle he would soon receive.
Finally, after persevering through the process, the day came when Elisha witnessed Elijah being taken up to heaven. As Elijah’s cloak fell, Elisha seized it, symbolizing the transfer of authority and anointing. From then on, Elisha was empowered to perform miracles, fulfilling the purposes of God.
Just as Elisha went through a process, we too must be willing to trust God’s timing and embrace the journey. The Law of Process teaches that God is not only interested in the destination, but also in the transformation that occurs within us along the way.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Elisha and the Law of Process. Help me to trust Your timing and embrace the journey You have set before me. Strengthen my faith as I persevere through seasons of waiting and preparation. May I grow in character and be fully equipped for the purpose You have ordained for my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
