Your Life Verse

Have you ever heard someone talk about their life verse? Maybe they didn’t call it a life verse, but they have a verse that they repeat often, aim to live by, and keep as their phone background or display somewhere in their home or office. That’s their life verse! Life verses are verses or passages of Scripture that hold special meaning or speak to us in a personal way. They can be an important part of our experience with God’s Word because they bring encouragement and direction to our lives or in specific seasons.

Maybe you’re in a season right now where you need a life verse. You need a word that keeps you moving forward, strengthens you in the face of temptation, or keeps your eyes focused on Christ. Over the next four days, we will talk about life verses and how you can find yours. You might not have a life verse right now, but believe this, there is one for you. When you discover it, you’ll join the chorus of many other Christians whose lives and circumstances have been shaped by the power of God’s Word.

Of course, we can’t move forward without a quick disclaimer: having a life verse doesn’t mean that you think one part of Scripture is more important than another. All of Scripture is important because it’s all God’s Word. Just like the apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “all of Scripture is profitable…” Having a life verse doesn’t negate the other 31,000+ other verses in the Bible. What a life verse does is give you a specific word to hold on to through life or a specific season in life. Just like a compass, a life verse keeps us pointed in the right direction; like a mission statement, it makes our purpose clear.

So, how are we going to find a life verse? Over the next four days we will prayerfully ask four questions that will help us determine what our life verse is going to be. Are you ready?

Thought of the Day: Finding a life verse is a wonderful way to cherish God’s Word. As I begin to look for my life verse, I will continue to value all of Scripture as a unified story that reveals God’s good character and His plan of salvation for the world.
