5 Prayers of Humilityنموونە
Prayer 2: “Discipline me however You desire.”
Sometimes it's hard for our flesh to understand, but the Bible teaches us that God's correction is a sign of His love. God does not correct us out of hatred or a mean spirit. He doesn't even have those feelings toward us! He's a kind, gracious, and loving Father who knows we need discipline in order to grow—and in order to become more like Jesus.
God corrects us because He loves us.
Therefore, since His hand of discipline is a sign of love, shouldn’t we yearn for His discipline? Shouldn’t we look for His shepherd’s staff on our right hand and on our left, showing us the right path for our feet?
Friend, don’t you want to feel the gentle tug of our Lord's guiding hand leading you in the way He wants you to go? Read Psalm 32:8 to see what He promised us.
Of course, we should.
Friend, if you want to be truly humble before the Lord, go ahead and ask Him for His discipline.
It's okay to be proactive about it. It's a good thing to ask the Lord, "Please, Jesus, discipline me however You desire."
His discipline will only make us better. Additionally, our lives will be easier if we proactively ask for His correction and discipline in advance, rather than going our own way and receiving unexpected (or unwanted) consequences for making bad decisions.
Friend, we have a loving Father who is willing to correct and guide us when we are wrong, or when we are at risk of walking down a dangerous path. Won't you ask Him today to correct you in any way He needs to, so you can stay on His straight and narrow path?
