You've Got a New Boss

Picture yourself working in a busy coffee shop with two managers. The first manager is aggressive, arrogant, and self-seeking, but the second, the new manager, is kind, gentle, and loving, but he will fight to protect his employees. Every day the two managers clash over the way the staff should be treated. Whoever wins the fight is the boss of the coffee shop—at least for ten minutes or so, until the other manager gets back up and fights for their opportunity to rule.

This is how many people wrongly view the Christian life. They see the flesh as too strong for the Holy Spirit to overcome, so a constant battle ensues over who will rule the Christian’s life that day. But the Bible teaches us the old man Adam has been defeated and now Christ reigns over the believer.

Yes, some days the coffee shop workers may forget who their boss is and return to their old manager’s systems and habits because it’s what they’ve been used to for so many years. But the true believer has a new character, radically changed by the indwelling Holy Spirit. So never forget, you have been called to freedom—live like a free person today!
